    ​This course will focus on understanding addiction as a form of self-medication, a maladaptive defense for managing unacceptable thoughts and feelings, and will emphasize treatment methods that combine psychoanalytic theory and technique with harm-reduction approaches.     June Workshop: Being Apart to Be Together: Helping Group Members Tolerate the Tension of Intimacy

    June Workshop: Loss and Separation

    Wednesdays, June 8 and 15, 2016 • 6:00–8:00 PM

    Separation and loss can be experienced in many ways, such as loss of significant others, functioning, trust, job, and homeland. Anxiety and depression may result. This workshop will focus on interventions that can be used to address the suffering of patients who have experienced such destabilizing events.
