    The CMPS Distance Learning Program offers instruction in modern psychoanalytic theory to licensed mental health professionals, and professionals from other related backgrounds, outside the greater New York City area. Courses cover key modern psychoanalytic concepts, utilizing case presentations to illustrate how theory informs clinical technique.  

    Courses are designed to address the interests of your group.  You may consult the CMPS Bulletin for possible topics.  

    For those who desire a survey of basic analytic concepts, the 10-week Introduction to Modern Psychoanalysis may be a good place to start.

    CE credit

    CMPS is authorized by the New York State Education Department to offer CE credits to New York State-licensed psychoanalysts, psychologists, and social workers.  If you are licensed to practice in another state, either in social work or another mental health discipline, you may check with your state licensing board to determine if it will honor instructional hours earned at CMPS.  

    Some particulars

    - Distance Learning courses are 10 weeks.
    - Courses are offered in the fall and spring semesters.
    - Classes convene in the office or some other suitable space of a host in your city.
    - A minimum of 5 students is necessary for a class experience; the recommended maximum is 10. 
    - The group meets together, in person, and the CMPS instructor joins via Zoom or Skype and/or a telephone connection. This arrangement allows the group members to participate in a live group experience with colleagues from their home city. 
    - A reliable visual connection sufficient to project the entire group through a laptop or desktop computer is required for communication with the instructor. It is the responsibility of the host group to arrange the particulars for the technology involved. IF an adequate speakerphone or webcam are needed and unavailable, CMPS will provide one for a fee of $25 per student, per semester.
    - A calling card or other telephone service should be purchased to allow for a backup audio connection. 
    - Weekly readings are provided at no additional cost through Dropbox.
    - Fee: $500 per group member. $25 online application and registration fee
