What happens in the intake process?

The initial meeting between the therapist and the patient is usually considered to be a consultation or information gathering session.  It is a chance to provide you with an opportunity to discuss your problem or concerns and what sort of help you are interested in receiving. You may also want to talk about what kind of therapist you would like and what your goals are for therapy.  You will be able to decide if you would like to try to work together with the intake therapist or if you would like to have help in looking for another. If you decide to work with the intake therapist, you will work out a schedule of meetings and session fee.

What is the fee for the intake?

The intake fee is $40.

What is psychoanalysis?

As a type of psychotherapy, psychoanalysis helps people change behaviors that interfere with their leading meaningful and productive lives. Sometimes called the talking cure, psychoanalysis uses verbal techniques to bring to awareness unconscious forces that determine thoughts, feelings, and behavior. In this way, individuals are freed to make choices about their life according to their desire rather than behave in repetitive and habitual ways.

At the Consultation and Referral Service therapists work psychoanalytically with patients to help resolve their problems instead of just overcoming them. Then everything may improve - moods, relationships, work, and school. Most importantly, patients are then freer to get what they want in life.

How much will this cost?

The cost of the sessions is mutually determined between the patient and the therapist.

Does the Consultation and Referral Service take insurance?

What is most unique about the Consultation and Referral Service is that fees are determined solely between the patient and therapist. The fees are designed to make treatment affordable according to each individual's financial circumstances.

How many sessions will I be able to have?
