Exhibition Theme: Dreamwork transforms the raw materials of memory, desire, fear and wish into the manifest content of the dream. Visual artists are encouraged to submit work that is related to dreaming, dream imagery, dream narrative, and dreamwork. The New York Graduate School of Psychoanalysis & The Center for Modern Psychoanalytic Studies Address: 16 West Tenth Street, New York, New York 10011 Date: May 9 – September 10th, 2009 Juried Competition Open to Original Artwork in Painting, Drawing, Photography, Sculpture, and Works on Paper: Artists 18 years and older residing in the United States may submit up to 3 works for consideration. The gallery cannot accommodate work in the media of film, video, or installation. Restrictions: Sculpture: Must fit through a 36”-wide doorway; work weighing more than 100 lbs. must be hand delivered. Artists with special installation requirements should be available to assist in the installation of their work. The curators reserves the right to refuse accepted work that arrives damaged, is too fragile to be exhibited, or was misrepresented in submission.

Calendar: About the Curators: Steven Poser is a practicing psychoanalyst, faculty member, and training analyst at the Center for Modern Psychoanalytic Studies in New York City. He recently presented a talk on ‘The Life and Death of the Unconscious in Modern and Contemporary Art” as part of the Pollock-Krasner lecture series in Southampton, New York, which has been published in both Art Criticism (2005) and Modern Psychoanalysis (2008). In the 1970’s, he managed John Gibson Gallery in Soho, was a consultant to the Whitney Museum, Programming Director of the Artists’ Television Network, and Visiting Critic in Drew University’s New York Semester on Contemporary Art. An exhibiting painter since 1991, he has shown in ten one-person and twelve group shows, including the Weatherspoon Gallery, University of North Carolina; Kunsthaus, Hamburg, Germany; White Box, Chelsea; and Carrie Haddad Gallery, Hudson, NY. He received the 1997 Gradiva award in painting from the National Association for the Advancement of Psychoanalysis, and in 1998 was Visiting Artist at the Boston University School of Fine Art. Fredrika Stjärne is an analyst-in-training at the Center for Modern Psychoanalytic studies in New York City. She is a trained photographer and painter with Masters Degrees from the University College of Arts, Crafts, and Design in Stockholm, Sweden and the School of Visual Arts in New York City. Prior to that she studied at The International Center of Photography in New York, and worked as a teacher and photographer in Sweden. She has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions throughout Scandinavia and Iceland and currently works as Director of Photography at Food & Wine Magazine. About the Center for Modern Psychoanalytic Studies and the New York Graduate School of Psychoanalysis: CMPS offers artists a psychoanalytically informed audience for their work. The Center was founded in 1971 in the heart of Greenwich Village in New York City. Training psychoanalysts for more than thirty years, CMPS is well known for its innovative and comprehensive approach to psychoanalytic technique, and its application of analytic treatment to the widest range of emotional disorders. CMPS is a licensure-qualifying institute whose curriculum fulfills the academic requirements to become a licensed psychoanalyst in the state of New York. The New York Graduate School of Psychoanalysis offers a master’s degree in psychoanalysis. “Dreamwork” is the fifth in a series of curated art exhibitions.
