This summer we are pleased to offer a series of provocative workshops investigating the challenges facing
the American Family in 2008.
These participatory seminars will be
held in the round and led by senior
CMPS faculty members.
Seminars focus on case material
and emphasize a psychodynamically
informed approach. Group process
teaching methods are used to
promote learning and to provide
participants with a rich, shared
emotional experience. The seminars
are all open to clinicians and to the
public and will be of special interest
to anyone considering enrolling in
the CMPS Certificate Program,
One-Year Course of Study, or One-
Year Group Experience
Program. Everyone is welcome.

are fathers necessary?
Tuesdays, May 27, June 3, 10, 17 — 5:30-7PM
In an age of sperm banks and greater
economic opportunities for women, some
feminists argue that fathers are no longer
needed to raise children. This workshop
explores the role fathers play in childhood
development and makes a case that both the
male and female perspective are crucial for
healthy psychic development in children,
whether sons or daughters.

the sandwich generation -
tolerating resentment, guilt & loss
Tuesdays, June 3, 10, 17, 24 — 7:10-8:40PM
As Americans are living longer, negotiating
and monitoring adequate care for elderly
parents falls to children already leading
demanding professional and family lives.
This participatory workshop will address the
impact this additional burden places on our
emotional lives and our relationships with
parents, spouses, siblings, and children.
