    Modern Psychoanalysis

The Journal of the Center for Modern Psychoanalytic Studies

As modern psychoanalysts we have embraced a unique way of practicing our craft, a way that prioritizes the clinical and affective dimension of psychoanalysis. This has placed us in a special relationship with all the other schools or psychoanalytic orientations. Over the course of nearly fifty years of our history, we have been eclectic in theory, and pragmatic in clinical practice, with a focus on the affective dimension of psychoanalysis. We have taken seriously from the beginning a concept of psychoanalytic theorizing as a kind of clinical thinking which, as Andre Green pointed out so clearly, must include a theory of affectivity.

In Modern Psychoanalysis we will continue to emphasize the openness of modern psychoanalysis to all schools of thought, as well as to cognate disciplines, whether in philosophy or in the bio-social sciences, or in any literary genre, or in the various disciplines allied with literary criticism.

Modern Psychoanalysis has been publishing continuously since 1976. Founded by Phyllis Meadow and published twice a year, it is also a clearing house for articles that extend the theory and practice of psychoanalysis and psychotherapy. Its authors have been nominated and awarded Gradiva Awards for best article, and it is indexed in the Psychoanalytic Electronic Publishing (PEP), the leading psychoanalytic research database, and PsychInfo. We invite you to join our community.
